Description

A simplified recipe for classic apple pie flavors, presented in easy-to-serve bar form.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Gradually add the softened butter, mixing until crumbly.
  3. Press half of the crumbly mixture into the bottom of a greased baking dish to form a crust.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Mix until the apples are coated.
  5. Pour the apple mixture over the crust in the baking dish.
  6. Crumble the remaining dough mixture over the top of the apples.
  7. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Let cool before cutting into bars and serving.
