A simplified recipe for classic apple pie flavors, presented in easy-to-serve bar form.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Gradually add the softened butter, mixing until crumbly.
- Press half of the crumbly mixture into the bottom of a greased baking dish to form a crust.
- In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Mix until the apples are coated.
- Pour the apple mixture over the crust in the baking dish.
- Crumble the remaining dough mixture over the top of the apples.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let cool before cutting into bars and serving.
