Description

A delightful dessert combining the comforting tastes of apple pie with the fluffy texture of cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Toss the ingredients well and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 to 5 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs to the butter mixture one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Layer the apple mixture over the batter.
  9. Pour the remaining batter over the apples and smooth the top.
  10. Bake for about 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  11. Allow the cake to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter.
