A delightful dessert combining the comforting tastes of apple pie with the fluffy texture of cake.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Toss the ingredients well and set aside.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 to 5 minutes).
- Add the eggs to the butter mixture one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
- Pour half of the batter into the greased baking dish and spread evenly.
- Layer the apple mixture over the batter.
- Pour the remaining batter over the apples and smooth the top.
- Bake for about 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.
Notes
For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter.
