Description

A rich and spooky chocolate cake, perfect for Halloween celebrations with its striking black color and delightful taste.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 0.5 cups black food coloring
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Optional garnishes: spooky sprinkles or meringue ghosts


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, white vinegar, and black food coloring.
  4. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into the two prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
