Description

Delightful soft pretzels with a sweet cinnamon sugar topping, perfect for sharing or satisfying sweet cravings.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of warm water into a small bowl and sprinkle the yeast over it.
  2. Stir in 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until dissolved and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  4. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and add the melted butter.
  5. Stir until a dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel; let it rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough, divide into 8 portions, and roll each into a rope about 18 inches long.
  8. Shape each rope into a pretzel and preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Boil 10 cups of water, add baking soda, and boil each pretzel for 30 seconds. Remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Serve warm, and consider dipping in chocolate or caramel. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
