A delightful traditional Greek dessert featuring layers of flaky phyllo dough, a creamy semolina filling, and a honey drizzle.
Ingredients
- 8 sheets of phyllo dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup semolina flour
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup honey, warmed
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer one sheet of phyllo in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat for six more sheets.
- Whisk together the semolina flour, eggs, granulated sugar, whole milk, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the creamy mixture over the phyllo base.
- Top with the final sheet of phyllo, brushing it with butter.
- Score the top of the pie lightly for even baking.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and set.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then drizzle with honey and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Handle phyllo dough with care to prevent it from drying out. Consider adding nuts for extra flavor.
