Description

A delightful traditional Greek dessert featuring layers of flaky phyllo dough, a creamy semolina filling, and a honey drizzle.

Ingredients

  • 8 sheets of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semolina flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup honey, warmed
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer one sheet of phyllo in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat for six more sheets.
  3. Whisk together the semolina flour, eggs, granulated sugar, whole milk, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the creamy mixture over the phyllo base.
  5. Top with the final sheet of phyllo, brushing it with butter.
  6. Score the top of the pie lightly for even baking.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and set.
  8. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then drizzle with honey and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Handle phyllo dough with care to prevent it from drying out. Consider adding nuts for extra flavor.
