Description
Delicious and vibrant red velvet cinnamon rolls with a creamy cream cheese frosting, perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2-4 tbsp milk (to adjust consistency)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
- Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and mini chocolate chips (if using) in a bowl until well combined.
- Roll and Assemble: Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling over the dough, leaving a small border. Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Bake them in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Make the Frosting: In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk to achieve a smooth consistency.
- Frost and Serve: Once the rolls have cooled slightly, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Make sure your yeast is fresh for proper rising. Let the cream cheese frosting sit at room temperature for easier spreading.
