Description
A delightful apple pie recipe served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 60 g granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 220 g unsalted butter (cold and cut into cubes)
- 110 g water
- 1 kg apples (Pink Lady, Royal Gala, or Fuji)
- 75 g unsalted butter
- 190 g brown sugar
- 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1¼ tbsp cornstarch
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2½ tbsp water
- 5 tbsp almond flour (or other finely ground nuts or breadcrumbs)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp water
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- Vanilla ice cream (or your preferred flavor)
Instructions
- Prepare the Crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add butter and blend until crumbs form, then add water until dough comes together. Chill for at least 1 hour.
- Make the Filling: Peel and slice apples, melt butter in a skillet, and cook apples for about 5 minutes. Add sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water; cook until thickened.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Assemble the Pie: Roll out dough, layer in pie dish, add almond flour, pour in filling, cover with second dough. Crimp edges.
- Prepare for Baking: Beat egg with water, brush over crust, sprinkle with brown sugar.
- Bake: Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Cover edges with foil if browning too quickly.
- Serve with Ice Cream: Cool slightly, slice, and serve warm with ice cream.
Notes
For added texture, mix different types of apples and incorporate nuts in the filling or crust.
